Fighting Prohibition-Era Legislation with Digital Tools and Social Media

Most states still have some antiquated laws on the books. Indiana has several that restrict the sale of alcohol in a variety of contradictory ways. We were tapped to help free the good people of the state of Indiana to buy alcohol if they so choose, no matter what day of the week.

Overturning century-old laws requires a Fresh Approach. MediaSauce’s blend of strategic communication expertise and digital know-how made it a perfect match to rally together against the status quo.

What do we want to change?

Allow the sale of packaged alcoholic beverages seven days a week.
Allow grocery and convenience stores to sell cold beer, rather than making it a privilege granted only to free-standing liquor stores.

The Solution

We developed and executed a website, a series of explanatory animations, and an ongoing social media campaign, designed to help the general public understand the issue, communicate their stance to their governmental representatives, and spread the word.

It’s not too often that we are given the chance to help fight for the freedom of the masses. All the better when that freedom is to allow our friends and neighbors the ability to eat, drink, and be merry when they see fit.

How’s it going?

Sometimes, when you fight the law, the law wins. Thus far, Politics has been the challenge. Research shows that the majority of Hoosiers support changing the laws to allow Sunday alcohol sales, ultimately, the decision to change is left to the legislature rather than the general public.

Unfortunately in January 2013, the topic was once again tabled by the state legislature. It will be revisited in next year’s session. Until then and every year after MediaSauce will be partnering with ChangeIt to bring the info to the streets and drum up support to change Indiana’s outdated liquor laws!
